Ladybird Houses

We designed our very own Ladybird houses.
We talked about what a Ladybird needs and drew a design in our topic books.
We had to label it and explain why we had chosen specific features.

Carol let us use some wood that they had in their classroom. We painted our Ladybird houses.
All we have to do now is wait for the paint to dry so we can drill some holes into the houses for our Ladybirds to hide in.
Our Ladybird houses will be taken home and placed in a special place in our gardens.
We think the vege garden is a great place because Aphids like to nibble on the vege leaves and we know that Ladybirds LOVE eating Aphids. That means that having Ladybirds in our gardens will be a BIG help!
Check out our photos!
Cool design! perhaps it will attract Ladybirds!

Shelby's design is a Ladybug!

We drew a plan and explained our features

Our Ladybird houses will blend in with the environment! Can you spot a Ladybird?
Keep an eye out up in Nature's way for a Ladybird house. You can look but please don't touch them:)

Butterfly Magic

We have been learning about the lifecycle of a Monarch Butterfly.
Shayla brought in some of her swan plants that already had Caterpillars on them.
Hello Casey! She is now Casey the Butterfly! Here she is just breaking out!

Her wings are a bit crumpled up! We saw her practicing using her Probiscus!

Her wings need to be pumped with fluid. She will flap her wings to make this happen.

We took her outside and placed her on a sunny shrub outside our classroom to let her get herself ready to fly away.
Isha and Shelby kept an eye on her at playtime and they saw her take her first flight! She was very clumsy!
The next time we looked for her she was gone.
We hope she comes back to visit us!
We named the big Caterpillar Casey. We saw magic happen in our class! We got to see Casey transform from a Caterpillar into a Pupa. Today we watched her hatch from her Pupa into a beautiful butterfly! It was amazing!  Check out the photos!
