To make a balloon rocket you need.....
A balloon, cellotape, A long piece of string and a small length of straw.
1. Thread the string through the straw, blow up the balloon.(try not to giggle!)
2. HOLD ON TO THE END TIGHT!
3. Cellotape the straw on top of the balloon.
4. Do a rocket count down, let go and WOOOOOSH! you have a speedy balloon rocket.
We worked in groups of 4 and trialled many balloon rocket flights to find the best method. We then raced each other in a competition.
We had a BLAST! some balloons popped!, some malfunctioned and had to try again, but we PERSEVERED till they worked. We took our own balloons home to teach our families!
Make sure the end of the balloon is facing towards you before take off. Fasten the straw to the top of the Balloon then you are ready for action!
Team work. Phoebe is holding on to that balloon tight so it doesn't run away early!
Whooooosh! The air comes out of the balloon and propels it along the string
Blowing up the balloons was tricky. Especially when you start giggling!
Ready to launch! 3, 2, 1........
Team challenges: Ella's Angels were the top girls team Balloon Rocket winners
Luca's team only just managed to beat Ella's Angels in the end!
I used to make these when I was teaching with my class. They had so much fun just like you kids!
ReplyDeleteWhen I look at what you kids are doing in class, you always look as though you are having the time of your lives! What a great way to learn. Nice one Room 14.
